At 30k feet flying to Japan it’s a good time to consider things when there are no work needs to cloud the view. Simply put I guess is that I have all day to do whatever the hell I want. Very powerful and quite different than the last 20 or so years. Now I can pick up that kindle and read everyday or go for walks with my Fujifilm camera. But now I fly along with the time ticking by and realize that life has changed.
Leaving work behind is one thing. Leaving it behind and flying to Asia for whatever time and wherever I go is something else entirely. I will take things at smaller points though. It’s too much to comprehend all at one time.
I got rid of all my stuff and only have a Tortuga Outbreaker and duffle. All the stuff that tied me to the Bay Area is gone except for kids. Kids are a superset of things though. What I wondered about doing in 2011 and perhaps fantasized in 2014 comes true.
Only with smaller steps though. My future is so bright I have to wear shades.
Saying goodbye to friends and bosses at work was tough. I like those people a lot but they also are a superset. The folks I sat next to, ate lunch with, worked with. The best people!
Now on to those small steps of retirement. It’s too soon to declare victory. Lots left to do and write about here. Places to see.
Talk with you all soon. New photos and day long walks in Japan are coming and I can’t wait.
