A Day Spent touring Penang Hill

Yesterday I took an afternoon trip to Penang Hill and rode the Funicular Railway to the top. Its the highest point on the island where George Town is and you get spectacular views of the area including bridges and the mainland. Sometimes it hard to remember this is an island. Here is a picture at the top.

The railways like this are always fun! Here is the view from the train heading up to the top of the hill.

Finally a wonderful visit to an extremely beautiful and significant Temple on the lower reaches of the hill. The Kek Lok Si Temple is simply beautiful and has many beautiful art works inside and out.

It was a wonderful afternoon trip even though the weather sometimes did not fully cooperate :-).

Penang Island is a wonderful place to spend more time if you are looking for a long stay place. You can find an airbnb or guesthouse here very easily and seeing the island is only one of the excursions. Of course, there is the food! I think George Town must have the best cuisine of any place I have been in Malaysia thus far. Such a mix of restaurants! This morning I tried a little local place for some Nasi Kandar and some of the great Kopi hot served here. Wonderful!

Moving on kinda sorta…

I’m at the half-way mark here and have a tour I signed up for next week to see the island and will do a ferry boat ride to the mainland for a day to see Butterworth and a temple there. Really have enjoyed my time here immensely but soon it will be time to move along to Thailand for 50 days. I have a really nice Airbnb rented in Bangkok which is at the 15th floor and is a condo with swimming pool, fitness center, and a whole host of restaurants and coffee shops down the streets. I’m sure I will get more than one picture of the evening time from the balcony there.
